October is my favourite time of year. Not only is it my birthday (on the 10th, for those that want to buy me a present), but the madness of AFL and NRL is finally over, the weather puts on its best show and the hibernating residents of Brisbane flood into restaurants and bars looking for ways forget those miserable, freezing 18-degree days of “winter”.
And with so many hungry bears looking for fun things to devour, we thought what a great time to launch some new Opinion Trivia shows in the capital of the sunshine state.
Starting tomorrow, we a have a new weekly Brisbane show kicking off every week for the remaining weeks of Rocktober (because that rocks!). The Brat Cave in Woolloongabba starts October 9, King Tea in Paddington starts October 17 and Special Rub in Coorparoo starts October 24.
Now, as evident of our Instagram stories, we at Sheepoll love good food, so it is no surprise that the venues we chosen to launch are all masters in specialty food and doing amazing things that your taste buds will thank you for.
The Brat Cave, as the name suggests, are the big bosses behind Brisbane’s best Bratwursts and Bavarian beers. The food is simple, but my god have they nailed it! The layout is perfect for Opinion Trivia, with a huge projector screen, a small stage and even an upright piano. Hosts Rebecca Sutton and Josh Lyons are super excited to see what sort of mayhem they can muster up.
The flavours coming out of the King Tea kitchen transport you to another part of the world with it’s delicious banquets of Sichuan-influenced dishes. The Hoisin BBQ Pork Ribs and Dou Ban Eggplant are AMAZEBALLS! This sexy bar that delivers mouth-bomb after mouth-bomb is only too fitting for Opinion Trivia hosts Olivia Brand and Zoe Shepard.
And when you though it couldn’t get any better, Special Rub delivers a happy ending to the month with it’s mouth-watering slow-cooked briskets, fried chicken, burgers and specialty shakes. Yep. Specialty shakes. Do yourself a flavour favour and dive into the Maple Syrup & Cornbread Soft Serve Malt Shake. Standup comics Sean Fernance and Mike Crowley will be barbecuing your brain well done with their style of trivia without any wrongs and rights.
So what are you waiting for? Go book a table now. All of our shows are free and make for a fun night out. And if you prefer to venture out on the weekends, we always have our original show at Saccharomyces Beer Cafe with Geordie McGrath and Steffan van Lint ...who’s birthday is on Wednesday, just in case you want to buy him a present.
Springtime new ven-ewes and delicious food.
